Rudy & The Race Across America | Rudy Project Rydon Review

Disclaimer: I received a sneak peek viewing of the documentary GODSPEED and a pair of Rudy Project Rydon sunglasses to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador) and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!

In case you haven't read my review of GODSPEED yet, I will give you a quick summary of my thoughts: Jerry Schemmel and Brad Cooper, the bicyclists for Team Enduring Hope, were an inspiration because of their faith in God, teamwork and physical/emotional/mental perseverance in the 3,000 miles of The Race Across America. This wasn't just some 12-state joyride. This was a RACE! To read my thoughts on GODSPEED, check out my complete review here.

GODSPEED will be hitting theaters on May 22nd, which is fast approaching, so you should snag some tickets now!

As a BibRave Pro, along with a sneak peak viewing of the upcoming documentary GODSPEED, I also received a pair of Rudy Project Rydon sunglasses to review. Let me give you a quick rundown on Rudy Project, a sponsor of GODSPEED.

Rudy Project, founded in 1985 by Rudy Barbazza in Treviso Italy, was created with a Vision for the world's most technologically advanced sports eyewear. By working in cooperation with athletes from all fields and by listening to what they want and what they need, Rudy Project never stop researching to find the most advanced materials to develop products that elevate the athlete's performance.
"Technically Cool: the two words that can best sum up this Vision; the two words that best express the DNA of each and every design carrying the brand Rudy Project." RudyProjectNA.com

I received the Rudy Project Rydon sunglasses with a White Gloss frame and Multilaser Orange lenses to review. These glasses are super lightweight, at only .85 oz, because they are made of highly advanced materials — carbon, aluminum, magnesium, silcium and titanium.

Rudy Project Rydon sunglasses are lightweight and durable. Sunglasses I have worn in the past are made of primarily plastic and haven't been able to withstand much abuse. Between being sat on by one of the kids or squished in a diaper bag, the life of sunglasses isn't a gentle one. I have been surprised by how durable the Rydon's are, even at such a light weight. The unique combination of materials makes them quite hardy.
"Rydon has been uniquely engineered with a carbonium frame and revolutionary aerospatial aluminum alloy (Kynetium) temples which combine magnesium, silcium and titanium to create an unbelievably lightweight, durable and flexible sunglass."
Which means I'm not worried about sharing my Rydon's with this guy...

Two features of the Rudy Project Rydon's that I want to highlight are the fully adjustable anti-slip temples and adjustable anti-slip nosepads. I wore my Rydon sunglasses on Saturday's long run and it was 75°F which is blazing hot compared to the winter we just came off of.

I sweated like a crazy person and honestly the temperature change just kicked my tail. The good news is my Rydon's performed a whole lot better than I did on this run. The sweat was rolling off my nose but, thanks to the adjustable anti-slip temples and nose pad, my Rydon sunglasses did not!

Explore the Rudy Project website to learn more about the many types of frames and lenses they have available. The photochromic lenses used in the GODSPEED documentary are pretty amazing (they adjust to the light for you -> learn more in Lindsey's review).

The Rudy Project Rydon sunglasses retail for $274.99 and come with Rudy Project's 3-year sunglasses warranty and their lens replacement warranty.  And as May 22nd will be upon us soon be sure to get your tickets to GODSPEED now

#Gmas18 Training W10 Recap

Follow along the 16-week journey as I train for my 10th 26.2, the Grandma’s Marathon coming up on June 16, 2018. I look forward to running with fellow BibRave Pros Angie, Amy and Jenn!

MONDAY:

Off.

TUESDAY:

(Treadmill) Fartlek Intervals 1:00 5k pace/1:00 recovery jog x 15 for 5.61 mi, 00:45. Then 10 minutes at MP to end it. This felt HARD! The speed intervals varied from 6:40-7:00/mi pace and started to feel more natural at the end. It’s like “relearning to run fast” because I do zero speedwork during pregnancy. (rightly so — sprinting with a big belly sounds terribly uncomfortable!) Core work after the run.

WEDNESDAY:

Easy Effort 7.05 mi, 01:06 @ 09:19 pace amongst all the chirping birds. I love it! The temp looked cold but it actually felt fine due to the very light breeze (vs the psycho wind lately).

THURSDAY

(Treadmill) Hill Intervals 5.25 mi, 00:45 back on the treadmill because baby was hungry right as it was time for me to head out this morning. It worked out fine this way since the treadmill is my only source of worthy “hills”. 10 x 1:00 @ 7:30/mile pace + 8% incline with 1:00 recovery jog. The incline and pace combo nearly killed me... I’m wiped!

FRIDAY:

Off... power cleaning/spring cleaning/just plain getting rid of clutter. And a play date with friends in the morning!

SATURDAY:

Long Run 16.01 mi, 02:16 @ 08:27 pace and my first taste of heat acclimation for the year... ha! 75°F was actually quite a shock to the system and I wore sunscreen but still burnt my arms. This was a total fail as a “fast finish” long but I was just glad to cover the miles! I need more heat practice before the race.

SUNDAY:

Recovery run 3.13 mi, 00:30 @ 09:35 pace with double stroller and boy #2 & #3 so #1 and dad could make waffles together. This morning was beautiful! I’m stiff from the speed work this week and yesterday’s run.

TOTAL MILEAGE: 37.05 miles

  1. I'd love to see that movie when it comes out. Glad to hear you like the sunglasses. I'm not very good about protection--I wear sunglasses but that's about it. I know better...

    1. I have been terrible about sun protection all my life! At my last doctor appointment, I had a reddish spot checked out on my nose... it's okay for now but my doctor wants to keep an eye on it. Since then I'm trying my best to be more careful!

  2. I really like the look of these sunglasses! The orange color is cool. I think I've also seen Rudy Project helmets too? 75 degrees? It warmed up quickly for you! Nice job. Thanks for linking!

    1. I was a little nervous about such a bold color but I really love these orange glasses! 75 is nothing compared to what you run in, Holly, but it sure kicks my tail! ;)
