5 Goals for My First Postpartum Race

Image
Happy Fitness Friday ! Tomorrow I'm running my first race since Baby W's birth and I wanted to share a few of my race goals with you. Over the past three weeks, I have been doing walk-run intervals to ease into running and I had my first "running-only" run on Wednesday. I'm not ready to push the pace but I do look forward to running with other people tomorrow! I run alone these days and really miss the running group atmosphere from our old hometown. Pregnancy, birth and the postpartum recovery take your body through so many changes! This week's 4-miler this week was a good reminder of all my body has been through. The 9:25/mile pace smoked me at the end of the run. That workout was a reminder that it takes time and patience to rebuild fitness after having a baby. Consistent stretching and foam rolling helps me to recover between workouts as I gradually increase the mileage and pace. 5 Goals for My First Postpartum Race 1. Run By Feel. I'...

Five Things Friday: After-Baby Edition

Image
Happy Fitness Friday ! Here is a quick run-down of five things this Friday: ONE: Life as a Mom of Two. The first week was stressful. The combination of a moody toddler, not being able to move around quickly myself, not sleeping and my husband returning to work all added up. Week #2 has been much better! I'm so thankful for nice weather and feeling good enough to take the boys outside on walks. Being outside makes everyone happier! TWO: Chocolate's Best Friend = Macadamia Nuts. My youngest brother brought me a bag of Mauna Loa Coconut Milk Chocolate Covered Macadamia Nuts yesterday and they are basically gone. Guilty as charged... they are addicting. I can't have these around the house anymore, otherwise the remaining baby weight will never leave! THREE: No Run on National Running Day After our first son was born, I was doing walk-run intervals just after 2 weeks postpartum. My body felt ready for it, as delivery was rather "easy" (for chi...

Friday Favorites | 36 Week Update

Image
Happy Friday, Happy Fargo Marathon weekend and Happy Mother's Day weekend! There is a lot of awesomeness going on this Fitness Friday and upcoming weekend. Plus, we have made it to the Week 36 Baby Update , which is a personal record for me :) That has been the best Mother's Day gift so far! My Fitness Friday Favorites ONE: Homemade Caramel Cinnamon Rolls for early Mother's Day.  I have been craving caramel rolls and finally worked up the ambition to make them. To keep myself from eating the entire batch, I'm giving away half of the pan as Mother's Day gifts ;) For my first attempt, they turned out really well but could have used some extra caramel topping. The recipe is coming in a future post! TWO: This made my Mother's Day/Week. While I was making lunch, an eerie silence came upon the house. Too quiet to be a good thing with a toddler around. I walked into E's room expecting to find total chaos or something broken and instead found him ...

Fall Friday Favorites - 10/31

Happy Fitness Friday and safe trick-or-treating to anyone who will be out and about this evening! Halloween isn't a super special day for our family and I'm honestly not a fan of the creepy and sometimes disgusting costumes out these days, but I do enjoy candy and want E to have fun! I love the adorable costumes they have for little kids these days! Even on a day like halloween, it is possible to be a light for Christ by simply blessing and encouraging others. I think giving people candy counts as a blessing ;) Chocolate sure blesses me! "You are the light of the world . A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:14-16 (emphasis added by me) And onto my Friday 5's... 5 Things That Made M...

Friday Five Reasons I Run

Image
Hello, Friday! Hope your Friday is going wonderfully this morning. I pulled a smooth move this morning by pouring old half n' half into my freshly brewed coffee. Moral of the story: Always smell milk or half n' half before you add it to your coffee. 5 Reasons I Run 1. To be a healthy example for my family. Little man is always watching and I hope he picks up more good habits from me than bad. I already caught him biting his nails like mama once... not good! I'm still working on breaking that nervous habit! 2. So I can eat these brownies and not feel bad about it. Of course I recommend eating them in moderation, but I just had to eat two of them because they were fresh out of the oven. I cut them small, okay?! Don't judge me ;) 3. Running is a low-cost sport. Goodbye hockey equipment and tennis rackets! All I need to run is a good pair (or two) of shoes. I alternate between these two types of shoes and that works for me. Race fees can get expensiv...

Goodbye July, Hello Fitness Friday ! Stop by the link-up to share your favorite fitness links! Here are my favorite pictures, Scriptures, workouts and foods this Friday. 5 Last Pictures for July We were attacked by the horses! Or they just wanted some attention. E love petting the horses :) Peas fresh from Grandma's garden are the best. He takes the word "iPod" literally. Eye-pod. This wild, spinny fair ride is the closest thing to a "date" that we've had in a while! This boy loves when daddy comes home! And I do, too :) 5 Truths for Today We have this hope [our faith and hope in Jesus Christ] as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. Hebrews 6:19 The heavens are Yours, and Yours also the earth; You founded the world and all that is in it. Psalm 89:11 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 So we fix our eyes not on what ...
