Birth Day Prepping + Greek Yogurt Pancakes

May is one day away and pregnancy week 34 is nearing its end! Here are a few things happening in our house this week:

We had an appointment with our midwife and the homebirth kit arrived that same day! I feel like I haven't done anything to prepare for our baby this time - no nursery decorating, no baby clothes buying, no crib or carseat shopping.

To feel like I have "done something", I sorted through the newborn cloth diapers a friend is borrowing me. Aren't those Blueberry diapers adorable?!

Baby is growing... a lot. Here is my "weight gain progress" photo. That's something new, huh? From week 5 to week 35, baby/my body has done some major growing - like 20 lbs. worth! It's completely amazing how God has made a woman's body to grow new life.

I feel surprisingly comfortable at this point, though I look like I'm smuggling a football under my shirt. This baby is carrying all out front, just like Mr. E.

Freezer meals are work in progress. Five down, ?? to go. So far I have two larger meals - tater tot hotdish and chili - and two smaller meals - BBQ chicken and hamburger hotdish. It's a start.

We are enjoying lots of mommy & E dates. Our days are spent mostly outdoors doing as many toddler adventure things as possible. As I am feeling all sentimental about our last few weeks of mommy & E alone time, E is busy asserting his independence. After we go out for a jogging stroller run, E goes on his own run while I cool down.

"Momma, my run! My run!"

I'm working on a list of Bible verses to meditate on during labor. This is something I didn't do during my pregnancy and wish I would have! <affiliate link> The Christian Childbirth Handbook lists many encouraging Scriptures to focus on to keep you grounded in God's strength during such a challenging time.
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by His grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say. 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17

Prenatal yoga is a new thing this week. A friend borrowed me her Summer Sanders' DVD and I really enjoy it. The workout involves light strength training and stretching. Very relaxing and great for stretching out tight running muscles! I'm still up and running though I do take a walk break whenever baby jabs me in the bladder.

This morning I discovered my new favorite pancake recipe. These Vanilla Greek Yogurt Pancakes are so quick and easy to make. My appetite does strange things when I'm nearing the end of pregnancy - like I'm hungry but nothing sounds good - and I'm just thankful to find something that I want to eat!

Vanilla Greek Yogurt Pancakes

  • 1 cup Chobani Vanilla Greek Yogurt
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Combine Greek yogurt and water in mixing bowl and stir together until smooth. Add eggs and stir.

Add dry ingredients and stir until batter is smooth. Pour batter onto heated, lightly buttered skillet. Cook pancakes on medium heat until lightly browned on each side.

Top with maple syrup, honey or peanut butter. Serve with a side of fruit. Strawberries and bananas are our favorite!

    1. I'm glad to here your homebirth went so well, Melissa! I remember reading a post on your blog about having a waterbirth and it was really encouraging. It seems odd to some people but I know it's the way we want to go! Though thinking about the big "birth day" makes me a bit nervous, I'm looking forward to having our baby at home this time and meeting him or her!
