I Want Bacon | Five-Minute Friday

I vote today as the most unique Five-Minute Friday topic ever.

Our topic today: BACON. It's a bit odd, slightly quirky but who doesn't love bacon?! I enjoy bacon but it did feel strange making a header image of just... bacon.

What's a "free write"? No editing, no over-thinking, no worrying about perfect grammar or punctuation. Just write!

The interrogation begins the second our sweet little toddler wakes up. "We have pancakes for breakfast?"  No, no pancakes today. Mommy is making bacon and eggs.

Then come the wants.

I want cheese.
I want the flashlight.
I want eggs.
I want milk.
I want bacon, mama.

Some days he gets the "May I please have _____?" down pretty well but not this morning. Maybe by the time he's 3 it will start to sink in...

I don't mind him asking for things. We love our kids and want to give them good things! But, whew, it gets draining when everything that comes out of the child's mouth is want, need, gimme. I feel like a human vending machine.

I wonder if I sound like that to God. He loves His children dearly and wants to give us good things. He is even pleased to give us the kingdom! That blows my mind.
“Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom." LUKE 12:32
God is patient, loving, compassionate, gracious and so full of love for us.
The Lord is gracious and compassionate,
slow to anger and rich in love.
The Lord is good to all;
He has compassion on all He has made.
The Lord is near to all who call on Him,
to all who call on Him in truth. PSALM 145:8-9, 18
And His Word tells us to ask and we will receive and to approach His throne boldly. Our prayers are even powerful and effective.
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. JAMES 5:16
I can't help but wonder if He gets just an itsy bitsy annoyed with my "I want" prayers. God, bless this. Heal that. Protect us. Give us this. Free me from that.

My toddler is 2.5 years old. That's his excuse. So what's mine? While I will continue to take all of my cares to the Lord, I want to spend more time praising Him for who He is and focusing on His promises. Sometimes my prayers are so "me-focused".

The more I praise our mighty God and give thanks to Him, the smaller my problems here on earth seem. He is the awesome Father that knows what we need, always provides for us and listens to even my me-focused prayers! Praise Him!
Praise the Lord.
Praise God in His sanctuary;
     praise Him in His mighty heavens.
Praise Him for His acts of power;
    praise Him for His surpassing greatness.
Praise Him with the sounding of the trumpet,
   praise Him with the harp and lyre,
praise Him with timbrel and dancing,
   praise Him with the strings and pipe,
praise Him with the clash of cymbals,
    praise Him with resounding cymbals.

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.

Praise the Lord.
PSALM 150

  3. 'So what's my excuse?' Yes, this is a good question! I've been a follower long enough to have learned to enjoy God's company a bit more than gimme, gimme, gimme, haven't I?!
